How to Remove Avocado Stain from a Fabric Napkin
Tools:
- E-Cloth - Liquid detergent - Cold water - Paper towels or a clean cloth
Initial Treatment
Remove excess avocado: Gently scrape off any remaining avocado with a dull edge (like the back of a spoon) without rubbing the stain into the fabric.
Blot the area: Use a clean, dry paper towel or cloth to blot the stain lightly. Avoid rubbing—this helps prevent the stain from setting deeper.
Pre-Soak and Detergent Application
Rinse with cold water: Hold the stained side of the napkin under cold running water. Cold water is preferable because it helps loosen food particles and prevent the avocado’s natural oils from bonding permanently with the fibers.
Apply a small amount of liquid detergent: Work a few drops of your mild, textile-friendly detergent directly into the stain. Gently massage the detergent into the fabric using your fingertips. This helps break down the oils without damaging the napkin.
Let it sit: Allow the detergent to penetrate for about 10 to 15 minutes, giving it time to drool into the fibers. This short dwell time ensures that the stain is targeted without risking damage to the fabric.
Hand Wash and Laundering
Gently agitate: After the pre-treatment, fill a basin with cold water and gently agitate the napkin. Lightly rub the stained area with your fingers while keeping the fabric submerged. This step helps the detergent and water to further break down the avocado residue.
Inspect the stain: Before proceeding to a full wash, check on the stain. If it appears to have lightened significantly, move on to the final laundering steps.
Wash as usual: Launder the napkin according to its care label instructions. Use cold water and your standard detergent. Avoid hot water, as it can set any remaining oils into the fabric.
Drying and Additional Considerations
Avoid the dryer if the stain persists: Air dry the napkin first. Heat from a dryer may cause any lingering avocado oils to set in permanently. Once dry, inspect the area again.
Repeat treatment if necessary: Occasionally, a stubborn stain may require a second treatment. Follow the same pre-soak and wash steps before switching to air drying again.
Double-check care labels: Always follow specific fabric instructions on the napkin’s care label to ensure the cleaning process does not affect its quality or color.
